Where Is It We Live?

Never before and never again will you be so perplexed as you will be after brief consideration of our existence.

Consider the over-complexity of the tragic web the world has weaved, into which we are progressively absorbed and by such absorption bound against our will.

Our minds grow daily, yet fray by the second. The decay apparently exceeds the growth, yet with time the collective knowledge of the human race grows.

All complain of lack of mental freedom, which is so unnaturally opposed by our inability to trust others, our inhibitions towards the assistance of others and least known, yet theoretically most significant, is this infallible lust to perceive our existence and arrive at a rational answer.

Irrespective of any effort toward the perception of true and current existence, such accurate perception simply cannot be, as we are so very limited by our infinitesimal sensory toolkit.

Many display such naivety, so as to prioritize insignificant dilemmas, particularly those regarding the social status between their peers and themselves. This sad ignorance is further exasperated by an inability to truly perceive not only the presence but the purpose of the peers under assessment. Do they really exist, or is the puppetmaster playing cruel tricks, formulating illusions of such apparent intensity that one simple cannot refute their existence. However, how would one know if these illusions were of such said intensity, as for all one knows, they have no true reference point, with which to compare this intensity.

Do we even exist?

It is understandable that some may be strongly inclined to consider the aforementioned rhetorical question to be no more than a meaningless paradox.

Although, under deep consideration, all we, as individuals, know is that our perception of reality is specific to us and is not necessarily identical or even remotely similar to that of any other.

As far as you know, you are the only person on this planet and this very writing is simply a literary concoction of your own mind or perhaps the puppetmaster.

If you disagree and you have every reason to do so, then please seriously consider how you would reply to the requests; “Prove that you exist.” “Prove that I exist.” “Prove that this writing exists.” “Prove that the world exists.” “Prove that time exists.”

At the risk of seeming insane, I don’t believe it is possible to answer any of those questions rationally, as no matter what your answer, as relative as it may be to yourself or the apparent world that surrounds you, its truthfulness as a rational answer is tarnished beyond usefulness by the inherent limitation of humans, that being; the human sensory system.

Before leaving you, I implore you to deeply (but not consciously) consider what you (think you may) have read and leave a comment below. I expect no concensus between comments and I look forward to seeing what logical and informative arguments may result.

Perhaps this could be considered to be a theory relating to “non-existence?” Or, more likely one relating to “The Measurement Problem” of quantam physics.

Thanks for reading and until next time, keep enjoying “reality.”

As we all know, there is often a negative connotation associated with energy efficient devices. Usually such connotations involve the presumption that such devices are more expensive and produce a lesser effect.

Also, as a guy, I have also found that excessive energy consumption will generally put a man in an advantageous social situation. Some examples of this are – large displacement car engines, bigger cars, louder stereos, brighter outdoor floodlights, faster boats, bigger kitchens, bigger bathrooms, heated towel racks, etc.

I believe that this “cool” factor which men are deriving from this energy wastage may be due to the fact that excessive consumption of resources is linked to above average wealth, which, for no apparent reason, is seen to be the mark of a better man.

So, to all the guys out there who like to trick out their cars, homes, boats and suchlike. Before you dash out and grab some incredibly inefficient Neon tubing or incandescent light globes. Perhaps you should have a look at what results a more efficient type of lighting can achieve. In the case of all of my projects, this is of course LED lighting.

Below is a couple images of a mate’s car, after an LED installation I completed earlier this week, with lots of help from my mate, Noel. Also keep in mind that the energy consumption of this entire system is less than 3 amps at 12V (DC) (or 36 Watts).

DSC00532 DSC00536_numberPlateBlurred DSC00535_numberPlateBlurred

Now compare this to a neon installation and try and pick the difference in brightness.

Neon tubing underglow.

As you can see from the image above, the light intensity of the LED kit is slightly more than that of the Neon kit of a comparable colour. Although it is drawing more than twice the amount of electrical power.

So before you consider buying the overpriced and obsolete neon tubing, perhaps you could consider LED strips, which are not only able to be cut to length ( between every 3 LEDs), but can be dimmed, draw less current, generate less heat, are flexible, able to be fixed to any flat clean surface using the adhesive backing, have a service life of 50,000 to 100,000 hours, are shock resistant and can be purchased in a waterproof form.

Not to mention the fact that 12V (DC) LED strips are available in 5 metre lengths on eBay.com.au from Hong Kong, China for as little as $10 (with free postage). Or $2/metre.

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?LH_BIN=1&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=5m+ip65+led+strip&_sop=15Please note

I do so hope that if you intend on doing any car, boat, caravan, motor-home or home lighting design that you at least consider using LEDs. I am almost positive that you will not be disappointed. I would also like to let you know, I am not a salesman, just a satisfied customer.

Thank you all for reading and I hope to hear about your LED design ideas in the comments section below. Have a great day!

“I want the world to remember me. But I want our Earth to never know I existed.”

–  Dillon Chaffey

The epitome or irony is we all seek freedom through oppression.

The world scurries from home to car to work to school. All in an attempt to earn a holiday.

The way in which people dwell on the definition of success being so closely intertwined with financial prosperity could not better highlight the global epidemic that is the continually strengthening correlation between wealth and success.

Proof of this relationship is in the fact that “Prosperity” is a synonym of “Success” and “Wealth” is a synonym of “Prosperity.” Or at least many modern dictionaries state this. Feel free to check yourself.

Do you discern this as being potentially troublesome? Do you want future generations to prioritize financial aspirations over all others? Do you want to promote ruthless methods toward obtaining a larger figure in one’s bank account or a thicker fold of leather in one’s pocket.

Have you at all realized or at least considered that the struggle toward attaining wealth for our personal freedom is quite literally the only thing stopping us from being truly free?

Surely by now some would be bewildered. How could somebody even conceive such a ludicrous notion?

I implore you to consider it. Truly consider what life without money or material possessions would be like. If you can’t, don’t be discouraged, neither can the majority of the modern world and it is solely because of this inability to look past the thick haze of wealth and the inherent evil is brings and instead look through it, at what it is we truly want.

As a child, did you want a suit, a house on the beach, a luxury car, a motorcycle or a 50″ flat screen television?

Well, even I can answer that. No! No, you did not want any of these things, because you had not yet succumb to the pressure imposed upon you to conform with the twisted ways of which we frequently refer to as “normality.”

Do you remember what you wanted as a child? You wanted parents that loved and respected you and gave you every second of attention they could possibly afford.

So, clearly some sort of pressure is imposed upon all of us to achieve success by gradually building a copious collection of inanimate objects. As ironic as it is, it is these very collections of inanimate objects, that eventually consume use, thus rendering us as inanimate.

If you feel as though you have failed in life thus far, question yourself as to what it is you are measuring your success by. Because, in all honesty, is the feeling of staring over the balcony of your house on the beach in your finely tailored Italian suit and admiring your luxury car, really worth knowing that you have wasted the best part of your life to get there?

Close your eyes, right now and imagine that you are the successful man or woman that you traversed through adulthood with the intention to be.

Open your eyes.

Now, after recalling what you wanted to be through your adulthood thus far, again close your eyes and imagine what it would be like to have nothing, other than your family, a house of sticks by the river and a smouldering fire with fresh fish slowly simmering above it.

Open your eyes.

How many differences between each of those images did you find? More importantly, which vision did you prefer? Which would you enjoy living every day? Which would you be more happy about living during your final days?

Those questions I will not answer. But I do sincerely hope that this has been somewhat through provoking. Perhaps it is time to literally escape to the country. Just think, no  more deadlines, no more dealing with a pompous superior, no more dealing with car trouble, no more dealing with debt, no more phone calls, no more feelings of inadequacy regarding your job performance, no more bills, no more mail, no more car accidents, no more stress and most importantly:

MORE TIME TO SPEND WITH YOUR BELOVED FAMILY!

I understand that this all sounds like fantasy and that’s because it is. It is everybody’s fantasy.

Right now you are saying; “But, I would lose my job.”, “But, what would I do with my car?”, “But, what about the mortgage?”

But, you would benefit greatly by instead saying; “How, could I live without my job?”, “Where is an area far enough away from civilization that my family and I will be safe in.”, “How long until my debt is cleared?” and finally, “When, can we leave?”

Call me crazy, but you all know it is a possibility. But for fear of failure and having to return to the suburbs, you procrastinate, knowing that one day you will be able to retire and travel around the world in a caravan. Hey, if the retired people can do it, why can’t you? The only difference may be the caravan and the ostentatious gifts you may pick up for friends back at home.

You have the power to be truly free, don’t let the suits brainwash you into thinking otherwise. Because the reality is we will all one day be worm food. So, the only question that remains is; would you rather rot in the ground knowing that you had little impact on the planet and enjoyed every second of your time with family? Or would you rather stress every day of your life and one day die of a stress related illness and rot in the ground just hoping that maybe your bank account was big enough to feature on the front of Time magazine?

Thank you all for enduring this very long post and I hope that you were able to derive something useful from it and I look forward to hearing stories from you all about how you have decided to escape to the country and live in a farmhouse, from which you churn butter and trade dairy products for cotton sheets, with which you make your clothes (no this is not sarcastic).

I hope to hear from you all in the comment section below. Have a fantastic day and enjoy your escape!

What is it about the mystery of the invisible and untouchable that drives us to create such devices at which we marvel?

Why is it we let something so minuscule dictate the way in which we live each of our days while we place such strong emphasis on a person’s ability to ‘stand their ground.’

The electron, potentially the smallest creation in existence, not only fascinates our world that uses and abuses them, but is a fundamental ingredient in the human ability to be ‘fascinated.’ Without electronic interaction between the windings within our mind, our concept of electronic theory would cease to exists, as would the world as we know it.

Such things allow the creativity, which can be summoned at random from the tangled web of pipes we carry each day on our shoulders, whose weight, although apparent exists not as a burden, but rather an infinite spring which flows with concepts and dreams, all of which can be comprehended and analyzed by the very web who created them.

Our mind, although so fascinating, finds solace in questioning itself. Perhaps the only computational machine known to man, that has the true ability to question itself.

Unbelievably, irrespective of the intrinsic complexity of the processor we bear, it is the very concept of the electron that allows not only our minds, but also every day in the modern world that we have moulded, to function.

To think that the very existence of our mind relies on that of electronic theory, is fascinating.

The only remaining question is; as important as we perceive electricity to be in maintaining our world, do we truly understand the inherent evil it brings, at least in the way it is utilized? More importantly, do we truly understand the benefits of our excessive and ever growing consumption?

The result of the human discovery of electricity and the subsequent applications of it have effectively drawn an abrupt end to true communication; its replacement, social media.

A prime example of the unnecessary complications caused by the introduction of electricity in our everyday lives is:

The wood stove (burning wood – biofuel), now being replaced by an electric stove (soon to be powered by a biofuel power plant).

Can you spot the evident flaw in logic here? Do you believe that the person responsible for deciding to convert biofuel to electricity to heat, instead of biofuel to heat, had any understanding whatsoever regarding the ‘Law of Conservation of Energy’?

Electricity is seen to be a ‘saviour’ of the planet and the ‘source’ of energy that our modern world will rely on. But, we have all forgotten the most fundamental rule of engineering, “Keep it simple!”

Because of this, engineering in the modern world has become overcomplicated as mechanical devices are replaced by far less efficient electrical machinery, in the hope to move toward a ‘Greener Future.’

In my personal opinion, overzealous energy conversion is not going to be the saviour of the planet, but rather moving to traditional methods of machine design, involving as few energy conversions as possible in order to operate.

It must become generally accepted that the true path to a more sustainable future very likely will not involve electricity at all.

Thank you all for reading and I would love to hear what your thoughts regarding the  aforementioned subjects are. Please do share and leave a comment. Perhaps we can instill some alternative viewpoints into others.

G’day readers. I hope that you are all having a fantastic day.

I have prepared this short explanation of why it is that people don’t want to drive electric cars, but instead cars powered by conventional over-powered combustion engines.

I will begin by introducing two cars, one is powered by a combustion engine and one by an electric motor. I am sure you can guess which is which using the pictures below.

I am sure that I do not need to tell you this, but the one on the left is the Nissan LEAF, an all electric car and the one on he right is the Holden HSV E3 Senator, powered by a very large combustion engine.

Now, without saying more, I believe that I have illustrated the real reason for people not driving electric cars. This is of course that ELECTRIC CARS ARE UGLY AND GUTLESS!

For all environmentalists concerned with dangerous carbon emissions, the appearance of electric cars is surely the primary limiting factor in their widespread adoption and the ultimate overturn of fossil-fuel-powered cars.

Down to the specs:

Nissan LEAF vs Holden HSV E3 Senator

Nissan LEAF specs from:

http://www.nissan-zeroemission.com/EN/LEAF/specs.html

Holden HSV E3 Senator specs from:

http://www.hsv.com.au/e3/GTS/

From the table above it quickly becomes apparent that the Nissan LEAF and all similar electric cars seem to belong to the stereotype, ugly and gutless. Whereas the world’s understanding of sexy and powerful is a huge car with an oversized engine, a prime example of this is the Holden HSV E3 Senator.

In summary, I hope that one day somebody will be able to develop and build attractive and powerful all-electric cars. A company of interest to me in this field is Tesla Motors. Have a look at their cars by visiting the link below:

http://www.teslamotors.com/

The 2013 Model S is of particular interest to me. What do you think?

Who knows, perhaps Ford will make an all-electric version of their new 2012 Evos Hybrid Concept (pictured below).

Please do leave a comment, vote on the poll below and let us all know what you think or what you have found regarding attractive electric cars. Surely companies similar to Tesla Motors exist and we would all love to hear about them.

Howdy, to all the members of the Chafflube community out there.

I am glad to introduce my new Environmentalism category, which will house all of my research, findings and ideas regarding the protection of the environment and all who are in it.

If you are a “greeny” as I am then please check in on this category regularly and don’t be shy to leave a comment on any post telling me how you feel about it. In fact, I encourage you to do so!

Have a great day and I look forward to enlightening you in the very near future regarding the positive and negative effects that the modern human lifestyle inflicts on the planet and its ability to sustain us.

Kind regards,

G’day to all of the members of the Chafflube community!

I am pleased to inform you all that I have just received an Arduino Mega2560 in the post and intend on publishing some very detailed tutorials, consisting of textual and video material. These tutorials will detail not only basic “Hello World!” and LED flashing programs (or “sketches” in Arduino language”). They will also detail very intricate, specialized projects that are intended to serve as efficient solutions for not so common projects.

The intention to create such specialized projects is to deliver a special service to the members of the Chafflube community, which does not simply imitate the majority of other electronics tutorial websites, who only offer cliche tutorials, but rather allow any electrical engineer to think outside of the box and replicate or modify my designs to benefit the real world.

I hope that you all stay tuned for some great Arduino tutorials and subscribe to my blog for E-mail or RSS updates in the Arduino category.

Together we can alter the world using the almighty $20 chip, the Arduino Mega2560!

Kind regards,

Dillon Chaffey

Merry Christmas and happy new year!

G’day, fellow members of the Chafflube community. I just wanted to wish you all a merry Christmas and a safe and eventful new year. I am glad to have associated with you all this year. Your feedback has been both constructive and abundant. I hope that I will be fortunate enough to learn with you all in 2013 and I intend on improving my dedication to new posts for you all to enjoy.

I have been slack regarding publishing new posts frequently this year, as I have been heavily involved in studying toward earning my Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which I hope to attain by the end of 2015 and then branch of into the ever expanding field of bio-engineering.

Anyway, enough about me. I once again wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Travel safely and don’t be afraid to take your time and get there safely. Don’t forget that it is better to arrive late than to not arrive at all!

Best wishes,

Dillon Chaffey (Chafflube)
